Recreational Scuba Diver Team The minimum level for a non-professional to be a member of the Recreational Scuba Team is a PADI Master Scuba Diver (MSD), which is a PADI Rescue Diver with five PADI Specialty's and 50 logged dives. The minimum level for a professional to be a part of the Recreational Scuba Team is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT), which is an Instructor who has taught at least 25 people and has five PADI Instructor Specialty's. Please note for both the MSD and MSDT two of the specialty's must be Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) Diver and Deep Diver. For those who would like to volunteer but don't quite meet the minimum requirements we are able to help you reach those standards. The total number of MSD or MSDT's for the Recreational Scuba Team is 24 divers.
Technical Scuba Diver Team The Technical Scuba Team is broken up in two levels and two roles. One role is that of a Technical Scuba Safety Diver the other role is that of a Technical Scuba Videographer. Once you know which role you would like to play the next step is to determine what depth you are able to provide said cover on? That leads us to the minimum level of Technical Certification. For those who will be shallower than 55 m/180 ft the minimum certification level is that of a DSAT Tec Deep Diver. Whether filming or providing safety if diving at depths beyond 55 m/180 ft to a maximum of 110 m/360 ft the minimum certification is a DSAT Tec Trimix Diver. Please note if you have a qualifying certification a crossover can be arranged. The total number of Technical Scuba Divers required are 20 DSAT Tec Deep Divers and 16 Tec Trimix Scuba Divers. The reason for the this large number is that not only will the athletes feel and know that they are being looked after well, but also that the whole duration of the dive(s) is being filmed play by play, thus giving us the chance to televise it live!
Safety Freediver Team This final category is just as important, if not the most important! The Safety Freediver Team has three categories and all are based on ability and experience. The first category is a Safety Freediver who can dive comfortably to 15 m/50 ft and wait at depth for a minimum of one minute. The second category is a Safety Freediver who is able to make a comfortable dive to 20 m/65 ft and wait at depth for a minimum of one minute. The third and final category is a Safety Freediver who is able to comfortably dive to 25 m/80 ft and wait at depth for a minimum of one minute. It would greatly help your application if you are associated with Apnea Academy, AIDA-International or Performance Freediving. Additionally if you have experience as a Safety Freediver in an internationally recognized competition(s) that is definitely a plus. The total number of Safety Freedivers required for the Team is 30. A final thought for the in-water volunteers is that we are all about inclusion rather than exclusion. So don't worry if you don't quite meet the minimum requirements we will still do our best to include you!
